A century of family, friends and memories

A LADY who has been part of the Rosewood community all her life celebrated her 100th birthday last week with family, friends and the staff and residents of Cabanda.

Mary Mogensen has witnessed many changes during her lifetime, a fact that was acknowledged at her birthday event where letters of congratulation from Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Scott Morrison were on display.

Mrs Mogensen is a resident of Cabanda.

She was born on December 18, 1921 to John William Evans and Lilla Dorothy Evans (nee Harding), in Nurse Stubbs’ maternity hospital in Rosewood.

After she finished school, Mary worked on her family farm and was involved with the Rosewood Congregational Church.

Also, with the completion of a Commercial Course at Technical College in Ipswich she excelled in typing and bookkeeping.

Mary’s involvement in community was endless.

She married Albert Mogensen, a professional photographer and cobbler, in the area and together they had four children Dora, Doris, Coral and William.

The family lived in different houses in Rosewood before they settled into a house in the main street, next to a building owned by them which they turned into a shoe store.

Today, she has nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren

Mary is still quite active through her passion for arts, crafts and gardening and is known as a remarkable person who is always there for others.

Mary said that she was honoured to have everyone there to celebrate her special birthday and expressed her gratitude for the many friendships that she has made over the years and for the special bond that she shares with her family.
