Parishioners observe the World Day of Prayer

PARISHIONERS, family and friends gathered at the St Brigids Hall on Friday to take part in Bible readings, prayers, singing and story readings for the 2022 World Day of Prayer.

The theme for this year’s event was England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the phrase, “I know the plans I have for you.”

The program was based on the letter that the prophet Jeremiah wrote to the exiles in Babylonia, the exiles were in a context of suffering, uncertainty and opposing views on how to respond to the moment.

Ipswich Catholic community parishioner Carmel Luetchford welcomed everyone to the morning and introduced special guest Eirys Jones from the United Welsh Church of Blackstone.

Dressed in theme, Eirys addressed the group and talked about the three countries of interest giving a background history, while sharing information about each country.

“Today we can come together to hear stories from different women and their families,” she said.

“Together we will listen to the fear of a child refugee while we learn to understand the context of a multi-cultural and multi-faith society in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

Prayers, songs of praise and Bible readings were read along with stories of hope from families who had faced challenges but were given hope through support from their chosen church groups and families.

Fellowship and friendships were shared among all who attended the event, and the morning concluded with well wishes over light refreshments.
