A double celebration on International Women’s Day

An International Women’s Day celebration was hosted by the Rosewood Community Centre for the members of the Centre’s Women’s Group.

The event was held on the 27th anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Group and co-ordinator Annette Andrews gave a presentation on the history of the association .

“The day was full of laughter and friendship with two wonderful attempts at a group sing along to the songs, ‘I am Woman’ by Helen Reddy and ‘You Have a Friend’ by Carole King,” Annette said.

“An egg and spoon race added fun to the day, though unfortunately the boiled eggs did not survive the laughter as they certainly were cracked up by the end of the game.

“As a thank you for being a wonderful group of very supportive and caring women each lady received a small gift through a game of pass the parcel.

“With so much shared laughter I could not think of a more wonderful way to celebrate especially as the last 18 months has been so hard on our Community Centre groups due to the varying Covid-19 restrictions.”

Centre Manager Donna Hanlon said that the Women’s Group provides women from the local rural areas a chance to be connected with other women who often experience similar life challenges and joys.

“I am so very pleased our Community Centre can provide the necessary resources for this group to be able to continue being such a strong and supportive program for all women living in Rosewood and surrounding rural districts,” she said.
