Marburg sisters set off on a new journey

THREE cheers were given to Marburg sisters, Jacquie and Karin Davies, who have run the Marburg post office business for the last 14 year.

In acknowledgement of their service, members of the Marburg community and the Marburg and District Residents Association surprised the ladies with a special presentation at the post office.

Association President Barry Gratton said he was disappointed that they were leaving the business.

“Thank you ladies, you have just done so much for the Marburg district and you can both leave here with your heads held high, gracefully,” he said.

“Karin delivers the mail around Marburg, she is dedicated and such a friendly, smiling face that all the families will remember.

“The Marburg community recognises Karin’s contribution through delivering the mail, for the extra care that she has taken during the deliveries and it is really appreciated.

“The familiar sound of the postie bike doing the rounds has become a part of Marburg.”

Jacquie was also presented with a certificate from Barry and the group to thank her for her caring service that she has provided as their postmistress.

“We thank you for your quick wit and personality and for all of your advice in helping people with new devices, your contribution to the community and numerous events is appreciated,” he said.

“A trip to the post office was always an experience in its self, and when you leave you felt uplifted.

“We wish both Karin and Jacquie well in their future endeavours.”

The sisters have managed the post office in Marburg for 14 years and Karin has been delivering the mail for 16 years.

Over the years they have achieved many highlights, have met many locals, have made new friends and said they will now walk away with many memories.

Jacquie said that there have just been so many different things that have happened over the years, though being involved in community, with the schools and with the local shows definitely stood out.

“Welcoming new residents into the town is also an exciting time,” she said.

“You become part of each other’s families through all the highs and lows and we are all just like one big happy family.

“Karin and I are planning to travel to the USA to visit family and we are looking to just spending time doing the things that we enjoy.

“Over the years it has been an absolute highlight to work alongside my sister.

“We get along so well and she is very special.

“We will miss the Marburg community, though we will stay in touch and we thank everyone for their support.”
