I’m proud to be the son of a serviceman!
He heeded the call,
And said, I will do the best that I can!
It takes a special type of person
To heed the call,
To do what is needed and stand tall!
Being a child of a World War Two veteran,
Didn’t give the best start in life.
I was four, when I first saw my dad,
Not understanding the hard times, he had!
When I first saw him in his air force uniform,
I didn’t understand,
How could I?
He wasn’t there, when I was born!
After the war, times were tough,
They went with the flow,
Taking the smooth, with the rough!
People did their best and carried on through,
What else could they do?
We didn’t have much, yet appreciated what we had,
Being provided for, by a caring Dad!
He’s been gone sometime now, I’m sad to say,
Now, I appreciate what he did, from day to day.
Yes, I’m proud to be the son of a veteran.
He helped me to be, the man I now am!
