RECORD numbers of spectators came through the gates at the Marburg race track to cheer on their favourites and enjoy lots of other entertainment at the Marburg Pacing Association’s annual Easter Race Day.
Each year the association holds this event especially for families who take up the invitation to enjoy a day out at a country venue.
Marburg Pacing Association President Scott Neaves was busy track side presenting the winning race team of each of the nine races, while also igniting excitement through drawing numerous raffles throughout the day.
Race book raffles, multi-draw raffles, race ticket raffles and ‘funny money’ were among the draws that were taking place and most families went home a winner, one way or another.
“I thank all the volunteers, sponsors, Oakwood Capital and of course the families who came along to support our event and for making this annual Easter Day possible,” he said.
“Our association always aims to provide families with a fun day out, that brings excitement and support to our horses and drivers from the sideline and today attracted a great crowd who did just that.”
Nine races were run throughout the day, with the major Oakwood Capital Goldstrike Series Final getting everybody out of their seats, to witness Driver Leonard Cain take horse So Am I over the finish line for the win.
Ron Barnes travelled from the Sunshine Coast with his family for the first time to see what the Marburg Races was all about. He said he was very impressed with the organisation and the entertainment on the day.
“Days like this just prove what a good club or organisation can achieve and the Marburg Pacing Association should be very proud,” he said.
“The whole atmosphere was friendly, fun and a true example of country spirit.
“Free rides and Easter gifts for the children while parents could enjoy a bet, a cold drink and great food is what I call a fantastic day out, and to be honest, what else could you want.”
