Arrests made after Rosewood home invasion

FOUR people have been charged over a Rosewood home invasion where a 76-year-old man was restrained and 26 firearms were stolen.

A police spokesman said around 5am on July 13, two masked men armed with axes forced their way into an Albert Street property.

It’s alleged two male offenders broke into a gun safe inside the home, and stole 26 firearms before fleeing in a white Mitsubishi express van.

Police said once the robbers left, the man was able to free himself and call Triple 000.

On July 16, detectives from the Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch and other agencies executed a search warrant at a Yvonne Drive property in Boronia Heights.

Detectives were reported to have found 22 firearms linked to the July 13 robbery.

Methylamphetamine, drug utensils and a stolen motorcycle were also found.

A second search warrant was executed at a Carnarvon Court property in Upper Caboolture and uncovered more firearms linked back to the Rosewood robbery.

A Springfield man, 35, was charged with one count each of entering a dwelling with intent, robbery, deprivation of liberty, shortening a firearm, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R and authority required to possess explosives.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on August 6.

A Murrumba Downs man, 29, was charged with one count each of entering a dwelling and possessing dangerous drugs.

He was released on bail and is due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on August 12.

A Boronia Heights man, 33, was charged with 19 counts of unlawful possession of weapons, two counts unlawful supply of weapons and one count each of receiving tainted property, possess dangerous drugs, possess explosives and one possess utensils.

He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 25.

A Boronia Heights woman, 29, was charged with 20 counts of unlawful possession of weapons and one count each of possessing a dangerous drug, receiving tainted goods and lacking authority to possess explosives.

She was remanded in custody to reappear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 11.

Ipswich Acting Detective Inspector Michelle Blaney said police would continue to target the illegal gun trade and work towards the arrest of those involved.

“We know stolen firearms are often linked to major and organised crime so it’s important that we continue our commitment in preventing these types of offences from occurring,” she said.

“We will continue to work with the community through proactive firearm awareness and education campaigns to make sure firearms are never a threat to the safety of our communities.

“If anyone has information on someone in possession of illegal firearms, I urge you to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.”
