Rosewood resident appalled by vandalism at local park

ANTICIPATION of a visit to a local park soon turned into disappointment for Rosewood resident Shaun Black when he walked up to the table and chair area to set up a picnic that he was hoping to enjoy with his family.

Papillon Park in Monarch Street in Rosewood was to be the venue as Shaun had heard of the facilities that are provided there for children.

“I thought that it would be nice to pack a picnic lunch and take my two young children for a morning out, but on arriving at the park I was shocked by the vandalism,” he said.

“There was glass all over the undercover concreted area and the basketball court, rubbish was dumped in one of the gardens, graffiti containing explicit language was all over the table and chairs and one of the concrete garden edging areas had been pulled apart and thrown all over the grassed area.

“It just makes me very upset to see this sort of damage to an area that has been built for families to go to for a relaxing and fun time.

“I am not pointing fingers, but more so wanting to make people aware, if your children are left to just do whatever they want, are they getting up to mischief?”

Shaun stayed at the park for 10 minutes before leaving and going somewhere else to enjoy his morning, as he said he did not want his children subjected to the explicit language that was displayed all over the seating area.

“Take responsibility and have some respect for property that simply is not yours,” he said.

“If the offenders are caught, they should be made to clean up the area, because otherwise they just get away with this sort of behaviour.

“I will not return to this park which is a real shame, and to be honest I am really disappointed.”
