AFTER going through old photos recently, Marburg resident Dorothy Lewis came across a photo of what she believes is the Girls Friendly Society, taking part in a parade in Rosewood.
Dorothy said that the Girls Friendly Society first began in Ipswich in the early 1900s, in a tradition which originated in England.
“I am not sure who took this photo, I found it among other photos that are of street parades that were held over the years in the area, in a box in one of my cupboards,” she said.
“From what I understand, this group provided fellowship and support to young women and on different occasions they would attend street parades, which is what this photo shows.
“The reason for showing this photo is to find out a little more about it.
“Who are the ladies in the photo? What year was it? Does anybody have any similar photos of other groups which also participated in street parades around the same time in the area?”
Dorothy hopes to create some interest and she also hopes to get some answers on a part of history that is still hopefully in the memory of others.
