Commemorating our Vietnam Veterans

PERFECT weather added to the setting for the Rosewood RSL Sub Branch’s commemorative service for Vietnam Veterans on Saturday.

The service was held at Doug Brown’s home. Doug is a Rosewood RSL member and Vietnam Veteran and has displays of artwork, corrugated iron creations and memorabilia.

Rosewood RSL President Bernie Mason said Vietnam Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the 1966 Battle of Long Tan, when Australian troops fought one of the fiercest battles of the Vietnam War.

“As a result of this conflict, 18 Australian lives were sacrificed, the largest loss of life on a single day during the Vietnam conflict,” he said.

“We pause and reflect on the bravery, teamwork and endurance that Australians displayed throughout this war and remember the sacrifices of more than 61,000 Australian servicemen and servicewomen who served on land, in the air and at sea.”

A poem was read by Rosewood RSL Secretary Carmel Luetchford before a minute’s silence and the reading of the Ode.

Members and families of the Rosewood RSL thanked Doug for allowing the service to be held at his property where everyone enjoyed taking a look around his gardens and memorabilia before the service.

Everybody then travelled to the Grandchester Hotel to enjoy a lunch that was hosted by the Rosewood RSL Sub Branch.
