An umbrella theme and activities galore at the Marburg Black Snake Creek Festival

MARBURG and District Residents Association members are gearing up to present the 16th Black Snake Creek Festival on Saturday, September 24.

“The Festival will be a great family event with a good variety of market stalls, activities for children, entertainment and food stalls,” says Association member, Wendye Gratton.

“The Marburg School P&C will be selling their famous Marburgers or you might enjoy a Devonshire Tea in the Anglican Church Hall.”

This year the theme for the Festival is based on umbrellas.

“There will be umbrellas around the grounds and some people have been very imaginative in coming up with ideas to create their own,” Wendye said.

The Marburg Art Group will have a display of hand painted umbrellas in the Green Shed Community Centre.

The Art Show opening will be held tonight (Friday, September 16) from 6pm to 9pm and the exhibition will be open each day from September 17 to 24 from 9am until 3pm.

The People’s Choice winner will be announced on the day of the Festival.

“The official welcome and opening of the Festival will be held around midday and following that, there will be the naming of the SES emergency vehicle,” Wendye said.

And she revealed that there’s plans for an Emergency Services Challenge which will involve umbrellas, water and smoke.

Entertainment will feature local artists as well as a demonstration by the Marburg Tai Chi group.

School children have been encouraged to enter in the Art activity challenge.

“The Rosewood Scrub Historical Society and Heritage Centre buildings will be open for people to learn more about their local area” she said.

“And an historic sulky which was built in Marburg will be on display for people to view.

“For a good day out with plenty to see and do so come along to see what our community has to offer.”

The Festival will run from 8am until 3pm.
