Safety review underway on Karrabin Rosewood Road

A HAIGSLEA woman, 23, was charged with failing to drive with due care and attention and drink driving with a reading of 0.230 percent after she veered off the road, through a fence and into a house yard on the Karrabin Rosewood Road, on October 12.

This was not the first incident along this part of the road.

On May 29, 2021, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle which ploughed into a house on the corner of Karrabin Rosewood Road and Hospital Road.

As a result of these two incidents and other safety concerns, Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden said he contacted the Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey to request that a speed review on the road be undertaken.

“On this section of Rosewood Karrabin Road, I expressed to Minister Bailey that guard rails should be installed and that an update in regards to requested repairs at the old Marburg line railway crossing be supplied,” he said.

“I am really pleased to have received a response from Minister Bailey stating that he acknowledges several crashes that have occurred on this road and as a result, investigations are underway to identify safety improvements.

“This investigation also includes looking at the installation of guard rails, and performing a speed limit review along the entire length of Karrabin Rosewood Road.

“Any recommendations to the existing speed limit will then be presented to the local Speed Management Committee, which includes representatives from the Queensland Police Service, Ipswich City Council and Transport and Main Roads.

“The investigations and speed limit review are expected to be complete by the end of November.”

He said this would be followed by costings and working out the timing of improvements.”

“In the meantime we all have a role to play in being cautious to stick by current speed limits and to abide by all road rules,” Mr Madden said.
