Should Rosewood’s busy lane be one-way?

ROYAL George Lane in Rosewood should be made a one-way street.

That’s the belief of Rosewood residents Geoff and Sean who believe the lane is an ‘accident waiting to happen’.

Sean said that each day he witnesses cars that do not stop at the stop sign oblivious to the pedestrians who cross this road.

“This street has motorists who travel on both sides of the road, cars that are parked outside of a busy takeaway shop and a stop sign that is not in clear sight for either the pedestrians or the drivers on the road.

“Why would a stop sign be placed almost five metres away from where the cars are actually stopping, it is also placed in an area that is not clear to anyone.

“This creates so many problems, being that cars do not stop, cars stop well after the sign where pedestrians walk, and traffic builds up at an area where cars already take up far too much space.

“Our representatives need to come and take a look in person to see what is going on here, and they only need to stand at the end of the street for about 15 minutes because the problem is so obvious.”

The placement of the stop sign is not the only problem that concerns Sean.

“When cars are parked outside of the takeaway shop, it leaves barely enough room for one car to pass let alone two, the congestion is terrible,” he said.

“I have seen accidents here and it is because of a mixture of all of the problems that I have mentioned, something needs to be done before a pedestrian is badly hurt or another car accident happens.

“Simply relocate the stop sign to be in clear sight of pedestrians and motorists and make the street a one-way street only.”

While Sean and Geoff were standing at the intersection of the lane with John Street, Cr Russell Milligan was walking across the street and they took the opportunity to talk with him about their concerns.

Cr Milligan acknowledged the issues and said that he would look into their suggestions and report back to the Ipswich City Council.
