More than swings and roundabouts for Haigslea School

A NEW school playground should be ready for students at Haigslea during the first term of next year.

Principal Andrew Sellick said that the new playground project has been the main target of fundraising efforts by the P&C for the last 12years.

“To see this vision coming to fruition is so exciting not only for the students but for the entire school community, the effort from all involved is so amazing,” he said.

“The old playground had needed replacing for many years so it was a necessity to replace and revitalise it.

“The P&C worked so hard through fundraising and grant applications to see it come to life.”

The total cost of the project is $65,000. The P&C contributed $30,000 and the remaining $35,000 came from a Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant.

“The design is an updated multi-age playground that has been designed in partnership with a landscaping company,” he said.

“This project is stage one of a two-part plan to replace the current Takura mulch ground cover with wet pour rubber soft fall, and the school will be applying for another grant to achieve the entire vision,” Mr Sellick said.

“As school Principal I am so excited to see this work take place.

“It is a significant milestone for everyone in our school community who has worked tirelessly and who has pursued it with a passion.

“It is going to be lovely to see the students finally enjoying themselves on a new playground as we move into the new school year.”
