My Christmas Tree decorations and what they mean to me

CHRISTMAS time for me is a time of spiritual reflection, a time to celebrate God’s love for the world through the birth of Jesus and a time to share and reflect with family and friends.

While enjoying food, festivity and the gift of giving, for me tradition plays a big role too and our Christmas tree is full of decorations that have a special meaning to our family.

Setting up the family tree each year is always exciting especially when unveiling the little treasures from past years that were either handmade or passed down from loved ones.

Every year my daughter Emalea adds to our treasures through beautiful ornaments that she either made at school or at home.

Each little decoration has its own story. These are stories that bring treasured memories to life, the star shines bright and symbolises the Star of Bethlehem, the angels appear high on the tree as a symbol of guidance.

Colourful animal baubles represent our animals and the love that we have for each one of them. The heart represents family and close friends that we have in our lives. The ballerina represents Emalea’s love for dance and the Russian girl represents all of the different cultures throughout the world.

Among these decorations are also personal decorations that were passed down from loved ones who have since parted and when placing them on the tree we remember them and keep their memory close to our heart.

Once Christmas is over, we pack these little time capsules of love and friendship in a safe place until the following year when we bring them out to hang them on the tree where they can once again shine.
