Rosewood Citizen of the Year nominee – Alex Mair

ALEX Mair has been nominated for the 2023 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year Award through demonstrating that a community thrives when its members are givers.

Alex held the position of Leader for the Rosewood Scout Group for 20 years. During this time he has held additional roles of District Commissioner, Assistant Regional Commissioner and Regional Commissioner.

Alex is also a member of the National Training Team for Scout Leaders in South East Queensland, and he is still involved in the Rosewood Scout Group.

Over the years, Alex has been involved in organising many big catering jobs for the scout movement, which included full field kitchens for events such as the Scout Banana Bash.

Across all the roles within Scouts, Alex averages in excess of 20 hours per week of voluntary service.

Alex has also been a member of the Uniting Church at Walloon since the early 1990s, and has held the position as chairman since 2015, where he guides meetings with efficiency and concern for each person.

His education, training and experience has equipped him to be a hands-on leader, particularly in the areas of property maintenance, policy writing and workplace health and safety requirements.

As a result of his experience, any property issues within the Rosewood and Walloon Uniting Churches are referred to Alex for attention. He also assists with maintenance at the Rosewood Uniting Church Goodwill Shop.

And he successfully applied for funding to restump part of the Goodwill shop.
