As we hang the new calendar on the wall,
And sing Auld Lang Syne,
We wonder, what will the new year be like,
Yours and mine?
Many probably wonder,
Is world peace possible?
In this present world of sin and suffering,
So-called Leaders continue to blunder!
Ask yourself, what have I learned so far?
How much of it is about vanity,
The lust for money, possessions and probably a new car.
Where does love and hope fit into the equation,
It probably never did in the past,
And doesn’t enter your mind on this occasion!
What did we achieve during the so-called festive season,
Did any of it have any rhyme or reason?
Many of those who were close to us,
Have gone now, amid all of the confusion and fuss.
None of them ever thought that they would not see the new year,
Never again to make resolutions.
Instead, now family members have to find solutions.
So, I will reiterate.
What will the new year be like for you and me?
At this point in time we don’t know,
Except that what will be, will be.
