Family fun with a side of faceplants

QUEENSLAND wrestling fans packed The Walloon Hotel last Saturday for an unforgettable night of high-energy action, laughs, and thrills.

Hotel landlord Stewart Gibson called it a “fantastic, family-friendly experience” – and he wasn’t kidding.

“It was a comedy show, and a blood show all rolled into one,” Mr Gibson said.

“The wrestlers weren’t just performing – they were right there in the crowd and everyone was grinning from ear to ear. It really was a night to remember.”

The crowd roared with delight as Damien Thorne and David Sheather clashed for the coveted Origins Title, with Sheather eager to settle the score after Thorne’s controversial fakeout in the Memorial Rumble.

Old rivalries reignited when B-Lars and JL Gold squared off, while CJ, Manu, Hilly Monroe, and Morgan Frye brought a mix of brains and brawn to the ring.

Rising stars Angus Sharp and Chris Keto made their mark on the Venom Pro Wrestling roster, while The Nerangutangs faced off against the unstoppable Nephilim Project in a showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The wildest match of the night? The Hockleys versus Aktaion and Kobra in a barnstorming Barnhouse Brawl that left the crowd buzzing.

Despite looming rain threats and stiff competition from V8 Supercars and a rodeo, about 200 enthusiastic fans showed up and showed out.

“Everything was against us, but the rain held off,” Mr Gibson said.

“And still, we had a great turnout.”

Mixing athleticism with lively audience interaction, around half a dozen wrestlers kept the energy electric.

Mr Gibson confirmed wrestling nights would be a regular part of The Walloon’s entertainment lineup.

“It’ll be back – either late this year or early next,” he promised.
