Emily is the Lions Regional Youth of the Year

ROSEWOOD Lions Youth of the Year Emily Goodlet has been selected as the winner of the Regional Youth of the Year.

The West Moreton Anglican College student was judged the Regional winner of the quest at a function in Kilcoy, on Saturday evening.

Emily is described by the Rosewood Club as a fine ambassador.

At the club level judging, Emily was asked to respond to impromptu questions on topics of the Voice Referendum and Political Wokeness.

She also gave a five minute speech on bullying, the speeches were then preceded by an interview with the Rosewood Lions Club Office Bearers.

Emily’s father Brett Goodlett said that Emily has always been a very determined person, who sets herself goals and is driven to reach them.

“I have witnessed ups and downs and some rollercoasters of success and failures and as parents we have needed to assist her in navigating that road,” he said.

“We are all extremely proud of her achievements and the person she has become.

“Emily has always been involved in many things, from football, dance, gymnastics, little athletics, swimming, touch football, agriculture practices and much more.

“Recently Emily received the highest academic award at school. She won the senior debater of the year and has competed at a senior level in debating competitions.

“Emily was also invited to be part of the Ipswich Youth Advisory Committee for the Ipswich City Council.”

Emily moved to Rosewood with her family in 2003.

“As a family we have always given to our amazing community,” Brett said.

“Our involvement in the community means a lot and we have assisted in many sporting groups and also at Rosewood State School, where Emily visits at the end of the year to see the students.

“At this stage Emily wants to study law after school, because she unfortunately has seen a personal case within our family that involved three murder trials over four years, that has given her a drive for the legal profession.”

The win in the quest at the Regional level will mean that Emily will now compete at State level in the Lions Youth of the Year competition.
