Nash prepares for the 2023 Mount Isa Rodeo

MAY 1, marked 100 days until the 2023 Mount Isa Rodeo, where Glamorgan Vale’s Nash Jones will be competing as an Open Rider.

He plans to give it his all with the aim of winning the title.

Rodeo is in Nash’s blood.

He started his journey towards rodeo when he was three by riding sheep and calves with the support of his father Markus Jones who was a professional bull rider.

Last year, at the Mount Isa Rodeo, Nash tied for first place in the 2nd Division Bull Ride, and won the Junior Steer Ride and the 2nd Division All Round Cowboy Titles.

In overseas competitions, Nash has competed in the USA numerous times.

In 2018, he competed in the USA Junior High School World Finals where he finished 11th in the world.

In 2019, he competed in the Youth Bull Riding finals in Texas where he finished 7th in the world, followed by the International Mini Bull Ride finals in Las Vegas where he finished 8th in the world.

Nash describes bull riding as the “best feeling ever”, with a major adrenaline rush, overall, he said that the experience is “fast paced action, like nothing you could ever imagine”.

“My goal is to one day be the number one Australian Bull Rider, a dream that most bull riders have, but I am in my prime now and I am working hard to achieve this dream,” he said.

Nash’s family will be at the Mt Isa Rodeo to support him.

“It will be great to have them with me, and I cannot wait, there is just something about the Mount Isa Rodeo, the atmosphere, the friends, the whole experience. It is amazing.”
