‘War on the Water’ comp at Glenlyon Dam

OVER the Labour Day long weekend, the Rosewood Amateur Fishing Club, headed west to Glenlyon Dam, for their favourite competition of the year.

The club rented cabins which were surrounded by stunning scenery, friendly kangaroos and colourful wild goats.

The weekend comp was well attended with 25 seniors and six juniors taking part in the trip.

Club Secretary Judy Litfin said the competition, fondly referred to as, ‘War on the Water’, got off to a good start at sunrise on Saturday, with everyone eager to find that secret spot.

“When the dust settled at sunset on Sunday evening the winners were revealed,” she said.

First place was won by Ken Slater, with a catch of 10 yellow belly, three jew and one silver perch, weighing in at 11.12 kilograms, earning 135.2 points.

Judy Litfin won second place with a catch of 10 yellow belly, three jew and one silver perch, a weight of 9.64 kg adding 120.8 points.

Third place was won by Daren Henderson, weighing in five jew and three yellow belly at 7.32 kg for 91.2 points.

The junior competition was won by Holly Bazzo, with a catch of five yellow belly and one jew, tipping the scales at 4.96kg earning 65.96 points.

Alisha Harris claimed second place catching three jew and one silver perch, weighing 2.585kg scoring 39.85 points.

“Over the weekend 21 jew (eel tailed cat fish) were caught and released, 75 yellow belly (golden perch) were caught with most taken home to enjoy, 14 silver perch were weighed in,” Judy reported.

“Everyone agreed, a great weekend was had by all.”
