Warm gestures for Mother’s Day

WARM gestures, songs and prayers were shared with the St Brigid School community on Friday, May 12, to acknowledge the mothers and other important people in the students’ lives.

Families were invited to join the students and staff to enjoy a morning tea of freshly cut fruit, baked pastries and healthy treats.

Conversations were shared among families during the morning tea, before the heartfelt liturgy was led by the Year 1 students and their teachers.

Tears and smiles were shared as the students sang songs and read prayers to the special people in their life.

Each student shared personal thoughts on a video about what their mother meant to them.

In the lead up to the event, the Year 6 Social Justice Group Abbey, Charlotte, Emalea and Petra set up a Mother’s Day stall each morning before school and during some lunch breaks for one week, to provide students with an opportunity to buy gifts and presents for their loved ones.

St Brigid’s School Principal Mia Curtis said the Social Justice Group worked hard to provide this stall to the school community, and she was proud of the hard work and the effort that Abbey, Charlotte, Emalea and Petra put into this stall.

“Each student in the Social Justice Group took their own initiative to set up, and restock the stall when needed, they also were in charge of taking the money, and giving change,” she said.

“The stall raised more than $1,000.

“All of the gifts that were sold were donated to the school by a grandmother of the school, who would like to remain anonymous because she just likes to help the students and the school community.

“Some of the items that the grandmother donated were tea towels, creative cards, book marks, treats, and other personalised one of a kind gifts that were beautifully crafted.

“The money that was raised will be used on future projects that we are working on within the school, and we are very grateful for the kind donations for the stall that we received.”

The school community congratulated the staff who worked to make the celebration special.
