Morning of “spectacular fun” for Under 8’s

IN AN exciting and memorable event, Rosewood State School hosted the annual Under 8’s event.

The schoolgrounds were transformed into a “vibrant and lively atmosphere” as children took part in a wide range of activities offering fun, learning and pure enjoyment.

Under 8’s day is an initiative created by Early Childhood Australia to highlight the importance of children’s early years.

This year’s theme was Play You, Me and our Community.

Rosewood State School Principal, Georgia O’Shea said the wide variety of play-based activities included sensory tables of cold spaghetti, bubble blowing, painting, planting seeds, digging for treasure, construction and joining in with AFL activities.

“Children could choose to get their face painted or visit a range of community organisations such as the Ipswich library, police, ambulance and fire services,” she said.

“One of the highlights of the morning was a wildlife meet and greet where children could get up close and personal with an array of reptiles, possums and birds.”

As part of appealing to the wider community, Rosewood school invited St Brigid’s Catholic Primary school to join in with the festivities to strengthen the relationship between the two schools.

“An emphasis was put on the importance of hosting such events as it fosters a sense of community and provides students, teachers and parents with an opportunity to relax, while having fun and creating lasting memories,” she said.

“It was really great to see the two schools combine and this is something that we hope will continue into the future.”
