THE Rosewood Show will once again welcome the Gordon McGeary Memorial Challenge back to the main arena, a popular event that showcases horsemanship.
Named after Gordon McGeary, who was a well-known horseman and member of the Show Society, it challenges the skills of both horse and rider.
Show Society President Pat Lenihan said competitors will compete for points across four areas – presentation, a standard hack, a working station and a cutout event. The points are then totalled and the rider with the most points, wins.
“This challenge has been a popular event over the years. It attracts many riders who are challenged to take part in sections that are set up like a working station environment,” he said.
“Obstacles are in place that require the horse to walk over stuff with control and awareness, much like the challenges that are faced on a property.
“Usually the Challenge brings a big crowd who get behind the competitors and we are hoping this will happen again this year, to keep the memory of Gordon’s love for horses alive.”
The Gordon McGeary Challenge is just one of the competitions named in honour of long-serving members.
“Gordon was a remarkable man, and his contribution to the show made such a huge difference.”
The Gordon McGeary Challenge is only one of the horse section competitions that will be held in the main ring on Saturday.
A whole variety of breeds will be competing for the Champion, Supreme Champion and Champion of Show ribbons.
