Outstanding mural brightens imaginations

IN A display of creativity, the Rosewood State School library has been brightened with a striking new mural created by a Brisbane artist.

The school’s literacy coach Leigh O’Shea said the mural showcased a vibrant tapestry of book characters ranging from recent characters, to old fashioned favourites such as Peter Pan.

“The students were asked for their input into the mural by brainstorming their favourite book characters and over 15 characters were created,” she said.

“Characters that are featured in the display are the rainbow fish, Clifford the big red dog, Dr Seuss’ Lorax, Harry Potter, Thelma the unicorn, the Big Friendly Giant and other Dr Seuss classics.”

The artist completed the project over many weeks.

“[She] was often under the watchful and excited eyes of students who would come in at lunch and want to talk about all of the amazing books she was making come to life before their very eyes,” Ms O’Shea said.

“The mural is not just a beautiful addition to our library but also a reflection of what we are trying to promote within our school, which is a love of reading.

“We have even managed to have our school expectations painted into our mural to remind students to be respectful, responsible, to be kind and to always bring their best.

“It is hoped that the mural will continue to inspire conversations and imaginations in the students at Rosewood for many future years while serving the purpose of creating an environment that nurtures reading in all of its students.”
