COPIES of a children’s book about Rosewood were given to Year Two students in a ceremony at Rosewood State School.

The book Rosewood Then & Now was written by Karen Tyrrell and illustrated by Megan Forward.

It was commissioned by the Rosewood History Group who paid for it to be written, illustrated and published through a grant from Community Bank Rosewood & District Bendigo Bank.

Belinda Lynem who is an educator at the school said the children were very enthusiastic when the author read the book to them during handover.

“The students were excited to see places they knew in the book,” she said.

“And there were illustrations of children wearing their school uniform and they loved that as well.”

The story follows the adventures of Meg and Alfie who explore the area from Thelma the Theropod and local Indigenous people to the development of mining, farming, the timber industry and the growth of the township.

It ends with Rosewood State School’s 150th anniversary.

Other schools that will get free copies of the book are St Brigid’s Primary School, Grandchester State School, Mt Marrow State School and Ashwell State School.
