A game of golf to support Santa on the Fire truck

GOLFERS and not-very-often golfers enjoyed a game at the Rosewood Golf Club on Sunday to help raise funds for the annual Santa on the Fire truck Christmas run.

Competitors on the day were Rosewood Golf Club members, staff from the PRD Real Estate Bremer Valley, members from the Rosewood QFES and community members.

The event, called the Social Players Challenge, attracted 104 players who played 18 holes in a two-person Ambrose.

A total of $1,560 was raised from the player fees. The Rosewood Lions Club donated a further $1,700.

Club member and co-ordinator of the Social Players Challenge Kerri Tomlinson reported that it was “a fantastic event, that brought community together to support such a great Christmas event”.

“Overall, the atmosphere on the day was friendly and fun,” she said.

“Everyone enjoyed the game of golf with family and friends, while also meeting some new people.

“I really enjoy organising and being part of events like this, because I am all about supporting community.

“I also organise Golf Nuts Queensland, so bringing experience from this cause into the Santa on the Fire truck event was really great.

“All players were served food throughout the day, the raffle sold out with great prizes being awarded to the lucky winners and there were lots of laughs and good conversation.”

The winners on the day were Michael Cade and Stephen Georgiou with second place going to Michael Burke and Lauren Toohey.

The Santa on the Fire truck run, is an event that has been held every Christmas for 25 years, bringing joy and the Christmas spirit to life in the streets of Rosewood and Thagoona.

Fire trucks are decorated for Christmas and used to escort Santa to every house in the streets of Rosewood and into Thagoona. Santa hands out a lolly bag to each child.

All proceeds raised from the golf day will be put towards purchasing lollies to make up almost 1000 lolly bags.

Volunteers who assist Santa with handing out the goodie bags, signal his imminent arrival through the loud alarms from the fire truck.

The Santa on a Fire Truck run is held on Christmas Eve.
