Couple recognised for their service to Marburg

A PLAQUE was unveiled and a building was renamed to honour the service of two volunteers at the Marburg Showgrounds on Saturday.

The plaque attached to the Creative Arts building now reads: The Robert and Janet Krause Creative Arts Building.

Those who attended the ceremony were told that Rob Krause had committed more than 70 years to the Marburg Show Society and Janet has supported the creative arts section of the Show for many years, while supporting Robert in his endeavours.

In 1994, Rob was made a life member of the Show Society and on May 11, 2023, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for more than seven decades of service to the Show Society and the Marburg community.

Society President Don Noble said the Marburg Show was “not just a show”, it was about a group of committed volunteers who worked on presenting what the area had to offer to the community.

“Many volunteers give their time without any expectations or payment and sometimes they receive no thanks or recognition, but without their hours of commitment, dedication and hard work our show would cease to exist,” he said.

“Robert became involved with the Marburg Show as a schoolboy exhibitor and he joined the society in 1964, to continue four generations of family involvement with Marburg.

“Over the years, Robert has held many positions within the Society such as Vice President, Minutes Secretary and President from 2006 to 2017.

“In 1970, he was elected as one of the trustees of the grounds and he later became the Secretary and Treasurer of that body until it ceased functioning in 1991.

“At the Marburg dance, Robert was in control of the microphone every second week for eight years. At the shows he was the Chief Photography Steward and the Chief Dairy Cattle Steward and he was a member of the Junior Farmers’ Club.

“Sometimes the Club would exhibit at the Royal Brisbane Show, and on many occasions, Marburg would take home the win.

“Robert has also assisted with compiling the information for the booklet called, ‘Not Just a Show’, which explains the history of the Marburg Show.

“And, over the years he has applied for many grants to be able to complete various projects including the construction of buildings on the grounds.”
