THE Rosewood and District Community Kindergarten hosted a double celebration last week for long time Teaching Assistant Sue Waugh and to celebrate 60 years of education at the kindergarten.
Guests at the event included educators and the kindergarten community, the children and families, Aboriginal artist Eulalia Martin and Jeff Chesters from Guiding Kulture who took all in attendance on a cultural journey.
Teacher Debbie Brown said the educators, committee members and administrators at the kindergarten celebrated an “amazing year”.
“This year we recognise Teaching Assistant Sue Waugh and congratulate her on 20 years of working at our kindy,” she said.
“Sue has shown so much patience, strength, dedication and commitment to not only her fellow educators but also to the children and their families.
“Over this time Sue has shaped countless lives, impacting kindness, happiness and joy to everyone, she really is so kind and very caring, and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her.”
A handmade board and coaster set painted by Eulalia was presented to Sue. It was designed around the kindergarten’s commissioned painting for 60 years of education which was also painted by Eulalia, a proud Bunuba, Gija woman.
“Our kindy has been part of the Rosewood and surrounding communities for 60 years, and throughout this time there has been laughter, learning and the building of foundations to prepare for countless futures,” Debbie said.
“The journey has been one of growth, resilience and boundless joy, and 60 years is a special milestone, where all educators have made a commitment to shape the hearts and minds of many generations.”
As well as the presentations, children sang and danced to Christmas songs, and Eulalia Martin presented a personalised shirt, which was patterned with her artwork, to each child.
