Open invite to awards ceremony

EACH year the Rosewood and surrounding communities come together to celebrate the Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year Awards Ceremony which is held at the Rosewood State School Hall on January 26.

The Lions Citizen of the Year award provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution and community engagement of people within the community.

In particular the ceremony provides an opportunity to recognise the countless hours of volunteer service given to groups, families and organisations within the Rosewood district.

This year four nominations were received, Gaylene Stack, Jodi Bowman, Ronald White and Sue Skelton, who have all contributed their time and service in many positive ways.

Last year the Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Alex Mair for his outstanding service to the Rosewood Scouts Group and the Rosewood Uniting Church community.

Rosewood Lions Club Citizen of the Year Coordinator Clyde Nicoll said that he mails out a letter to a range of organisations in the Rosewood district asking for nominations, for the next Citizen of the Year.

“Once I received the applications, they are then sent to the three judges and I am the only person who knows who the judges are,” he said.

“A trophy is then organised by me for the winner and each person nominated receives a framed certificate at the ceremony.

“This is an exciting opportunity each year to bring the community together, whilst hearing what each nominee has done in the community before the winner is announced.

“The community realises the good work nominated people do in the community, and this particular award has been going since 2001.”

The first recipient of this award was Pauline Allen, and since then the award has been presented to a range of different people who have made a positive impact within the community.
