$5.4M for Ipswich and district veterans hub

RSL Queensland will receive a $5.45 million cash boost for its planned veterans and families Hub in Ipswich.

Veterans Affairs Minister Matt Keogh made the announcement in Ipswich last week.

He said the expansion of the Hub network would eventually mean more than 10,000 veterans and their families would have improved specialist services close to Ipswich.

“Each veteran community around the country is different so it’s essential we’re developing Hubs that provide targeted support, not taking a cookie-cutter approach,” Mr Keogh said.

The Ipswich facility would focus on medical interventions and the provision of physical and mental health rehabilitation services supported by Mates4Mates.

Social and emotional wellbeing supports would be organised by RSL Queensland.

The expansion of the Hubs network in the Ipswich region is part of the Government’s $46.7 million pledge to deliver 10 new Hubs throughout Australia.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the grant money was “great news for our local ex-service community in Ipswich and surrounding areas”.

“This much-needed service will make it easier for people to access the practical support they need close to home and help with their transition to civilian life,” he said.

“I advocated strongly for a Hub in Ipswich because we’re a garrison town that’s home to the biggest Air Force base in Australia in RAAF Base Amberley, and our region has one of the largest defence and veteran populations in the country.”
