CABANDA Care hosted a visit from the Federal Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells recently to learn about the Federal Government’s aged care reforms.
The visit was arranged by Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, to give residents and staff a chance to speak with the Minister.
“I was delighted to have the Minister for Aged Care in my electorate and for her to come and see first-hand what they are doing at Cabanda,” Mr Neumann said.
“It was a great opportunity for the Board and staff to raise a range of funding and regulatory issues with the Minister directly.”
The visitors were also given a tour of the Cabanda facility.
The visit followed the release of the Aged Care Taskforce’s Final Report, and consultations on a new draft Aged Care Act.
Minister Wells told the Cabanda Board the Taskforce Report and New Aged Care Act were aimed at developing a sustainable aged care system that provided high quality care now and into the future.
“This Final Report is the next step in continuing our mission to delivering dignity and respect to older Australians,” Minister Wells said.
“The Albanese Government has put nurses back into nursing homes, given carers more time to care, lifted wages and improved transparency and accountability.
“We are determined to set the aged care sector up for long term success, to make sure that older Australians receive the dignified, high-quality care that they deserve in the years and decades to come.”
According to the Taskforce Report the number of Australians aged 65 and over will more than double and the number aged 85 and over will more than triple over the next 40 years. Meanwhile, the number of centenarians is expected to increase six-fold.
“This will bring greater funding pressures on the entire community,” the Minister said.
“After spending their lives building up our country, we have a solemn responsibility as a nation to respectfully care for older Australians as they age.”
