Record entries as families flow into Marburg Show

THOUSANDS of people headed to the showgrounds last weekend to enjoy the 102nd Marburg Show.

Society President Ann-Marie Frohloff said this year’s show had upwards of three and a half thousand people turn up and take part in the festivities.

“This was probably our first big year in a while and the numbers were good,” she said.

“We had record entries too, horticulture, photography, horse numbers were all up for exhibitors.

“We are definitely growing.”

A deciding factor in turn out was the weather, sunshine and blue skies coaxed lots of families outside in search of entertainment – which the show provided with aplomb.

Everything expected of a country show was on offer with man’s best friend again well represented as judging for dogs of all breeds, colours and sizes enthralled crowds.

The exhibits and pavilions buzzed as showgoers took their time checking out all the displays.

“The show favourite was the pig racing, everyone really loved that,” she said.

“After that, probably Walter Whip, he was awesome too and did a workshop with the kids as well as night time entertainment.”

Children had fun inside show alley, enjoying fun fair rides, trying their hand at amusement park games and of course, getting their hands on as many showbags as their parents allowed.

The most important part of a show is the volunteers who work tirelessly to make it happen.

“From a president’s point of view, I’d like to thank all our volunteers,” Ann-Marie said.

“It was a mammoth effort everyone has put in to make this show possible and we couldn’t do it without them.

“I’ve had people come up to me and say ‘you’ve put on a great show’ and I say ‘no, it’s not me … it’s the army of volunteers’.”

She said that they always needed more volunteers and invited anyone with a spirit to serve their community, to come forward and get involved.

“People with any skill sets are needed, even if it’s just helping with the barbeque,” she said.

“We’ve had great feedback from show goers, nothing negative has been said and everyone says they had a good time.

“We’ve begun planning next year’s show and it’ll be even better.”
