Veteran families to receive new support

VETERAN families in Ipswich will soon have access to expanded well-being, education, and social programs, following a funding boost of more than $75,000 from the Federal Government.

The Legacy Club of Ipswich will receive $75,580 through the 2024-2025 Veteran Wellbeing Grants Program.

The funding will support weekly programs on a range of topics and a retreat aimed at assisting about 100 families coping with the loss of a loved one.

Locally, Mates4Mates will also use funding to operate the planned Ipswich Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in partnership with RSL Queensland.

The hub is designed to offer programs to help veterans and family members maintain their health and wellbeing, including group physical training and wellness activities.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Keogh visited Legacy House in Ipswich to announce the funding, joined by Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann, Ipswich Legacy President Donna Reggett, and veteran families.

Mr Keogh said the grants would allow Ipswich Legacy to offer retreats and other activities for bereaved families.

“These programs will provide support and comfort to surviving spouses and children who have lost loved ones,” he said.

Mr Neumann said the funding would deliver tangible benefits to the local community.

“Ipswich Legacy provides financial assistance, social connection, and educational support for veteran families. This grant will help them expand those services,” he said.
