THE Marburg and District Residents Association hosted its annual Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council.
More than 60 guests were welcomed to the morning tea in the Marburg Community Centre by Wendye Gratton and Leo Faranda.
Leo spoke to his audience about the importance of blood donations for cancer patients,
The guests enjoyed a delicious morning tea with baked goods donated by members of the group.
“Three students from Marburg State School assisted with the serving of the food,” said Wendye. “They did a great job.”
So, too, did the workers in the kitchen.
“Carol, Susan, Lyn and Sharn were kept busy plating food and ensuring everyone was well fed.”
Adding to the interest was a display of salt and pepper shakers and three ladies who won the lucky spot competition received their own set of salt and pepper shakers, compliments of local Marburg resident, Jacquie Davies.
“We raffled more than 30 prizes which had been donated by members and the Marburg Post Office and Marburg Hotel,” Wendye said. “New MP, Darren Zanow donated the lucky door prize.”
Local poet Denleigh Stenzel entertained the guests with renditions of his poems and Brian Kickbusch read some amusing words … “which let us know we are growing old”.
“All in all it was a great morning and the Association raised $1,400 for the Queensland Cancer Council,” Wendy said.
