ROSEWOOD Library was built in 2020 as part council’s mission to reinvent libraries in Ipswich, but its roof was damaged that same year and now repairs are underway.
The library cost $8.8 million to build and fit out. As part of the construction, solar panels were installed on the roof
In October 2020, a storm damaged the panels and sections of the roof.
The repairs have been estimated at $140,000.
If the damage happened in 2020, why are repairs only being done now?
Council’s Community and Sport Committee chairperson, Councillor Jacob Madsen said the damage was being fixed as part of an insurance claim.
“As we all know from insurance claims, it can take some time for assessment and then repairs to be carried out in line with the insurer’s processes and schedule,” he said.
INTERNAL UPGRADE
“Separate to the roof repairs, council has budgeted $120,000 towards improvements at Rosewood Library,” Cr David Cullen said.
“These improvements are internal to the library, and unrelated to the roof repairs.
Cr Jim Madden said improvements would also enable better use of the space available.
“Our library programs continue to grow in popularity and visitation to the Ipswich Libraries also continues to increase over time,” he said.
“These improvements to the library’s layout and internal infrastructure and furnishings will help to improve the experience and usage of the library for customers and staff alike.”
Repairs are expected to be completed by mid August.
