An outstanding community led initiative

The Scenic Rim is a remarkable place. To live. To work. And to grow things! Our region has, over the generations, contributed greatly to Australia’s agricultural story. Products from the Scenic Rim are top line, and reach markets all over Australia and, in many cases, all over the world.

The quality of our farming lands, and the quality of our farmers, are both key contributors to this long-term and continuing success for agriculture in the Scenic Rim. As more people move into our region and make it their home, and the city comes a little bit closer to the country with new housing, there is no doubt in my mind that these rich farming lands of the region need to be preserved into the future. Having a place to grow food, close to metropolitan areas and industries that support food processing, is essential for the greater Brisbane region. From early on in Queensland’s history, our region has been the lifeblood and the food basket of the southeast, and that is something that must be held fast to.

The Scenic Rim Agricultural Expo is an outstanding community led initiative by the Rotary Club of Fassifern Valley and Harrisville Lions. These two organisations, and their many volunteers, exemplify another aspect of the Scenic Rim’s remarkability – wonderful community spirit. I thank all of those involved in organising, sponsoring and working at this expo and pass on my very best wishes that it will be a successful event.
