ATTENTION green thumbs and fans of foliage, the Rosewood Native Plant Sale is on again.
Held every October, the sale is in its 11th year.
Organiser Heather Knowles said while voting in the state government and council elections was scheduled the same day, the plant sale would go ahead.
“I had my date booked before they announced the election,” she laughed.
“I think most people know we have this event at the end of every October.”
In its early years, the event was held in conjunction with the Rosewood Festival.
“No one was using the big green shed, or the exhibition pavilion as council like to call it,” she said.
“When that festival was cancelled we became a stand alone fixture.
“We partner with council and the event is part of Sustainable Ipswich Month.”
There are 47 tables in the layout, each can fit around eight trays.
“I can fit 160 plants a table, but there’s different sized plants, they go from tube stock to 300mm pots,” she said.
“There’ll be bush food plants, ferns, cycads, plants suitable for fauna like bird attracting plants, prices start from $3.
“We also have an information booth, if people have questions about native plants or want something identified, we do that too.”
Some of the static displays will be The Queensland Bush Food Association, Birdlife Queensland and Bat Conservation and Rescue Queensland.
“Bat Conservation will have a few bats on display, Queensland Wildlife Artists will have artwork for sale,” she said.
“Members of Wildlife Queensland, the Wilderness Society of Queensland, Ipswich City Council’s conservation and waste management officers will be there too.”
The big attraction this year is an interactive wildlife show that’ll be on for 15 minutes every hour.
“The wildlife people will have animals there, children can pet them and learn more about our native species,” she said.
“I’d also suggest if you’re planning on making plant purchases, bring a box or reusable bag with you.
“A list of plants being sold will be on the Native Plants Queensland website a few days before the sale.”
The Rosewood Community Centre will have food for sale and there will be a coffee van onsite too.
The event is at the Rosewood Showground, October 26 from 9am to 3pm.
