PARISHIONERS were confronted with a man wielding a knife at the Mount Walker Uniting Church on Sunday, December 3.
Constable Scott Muscat from the Rosewood Police Station reported that at about 10am, a man entered the Mount Walker Uniting Church grounds. He was driving a green vehicle.
“On arrival the man was armed with a knife, and he was displaying erratic behaviour while speaking to the members of public who were at the church,” he said.
“As a result, police were alerted and attended the scene soon after from the Rosewood and Harrisville police stations.”
When the police arrived, they were able to secure the knife.
“[But] the man then proceeded to take his shirt off, and then attempted to fight police.
“The man was apprehended and transported to the Ipswich Watch House.”
He was remanded in custody.
Further investigations revealed that the car the man had been driving was stolen during a break and enter in Brisbane, the night before he was arrested in the grounds of the Mt Walker Uniting Church.
Police would like to remind people to keep their houses locked and their vehicles locked up and secured at all times, and to be safe during the holiday period.
