Warnings to get set for the fire season as fire breaks out in local area

As the fire season approaches, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are encouraging land owners to prepare and maintain their properties, as fires have started to break out in the area.

On August 9, a grassfire broke out on Sippels Road, Grandchester resulting in emergency crews being called to the scene at 10:20am.

Attending to the fire where seven teams, including the Rural Fire Service crews from Grandchester, Hatton Vale, Marburg and Blenheim.

Auxiliary Firefighters from the Rosewood Fire and Rescue Station also attended the scene.

The fire was reported as being about 200 metres by 100 metres initially and houses in the area were under threat of being affected.

The fire was contained just after 11:40am and all crews were released from the job just before 12:50pm, the site was then handed back to the land owner, the cause of the fire is unknown.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services representative said that the fire season in Queensland often begins in July and runs through until October, with a chance of extending through to February.

“These times can vary each year depending on the condition of the local bushland,” the representative said.

“With long term climate conditions, short term weather events and also the impact of climate change bush fires can occur at any time.

“Climate change is creating extended fire seasons, with higher temperatures and more frequent hot days.

“We are encouraging landowners to be prepared for the bush fire season, by maintaining their properties and being cautious.”
