Border Trots 31st March

We open the bowling this week with a shot of the upgrade to the horse wash at Marburg. Wash is now much safer for horses and trainers.

All we need now, is more patrons on course. We race this Sunday April 2 and follow up with the massive Easter Sunday Fun Day seven days later, April 9.

Call for coaches

This is a great initiative for Racing Queensland to consider – the following is from an article by Terry Gange in Harnesslink.

For those of us who’ve been around the sport of harness racing for more years than we’d care to remember, it’s not easy to put yourself in the shoes of a young person aspiring to get their start.

Limited knowledge, a lack of contacts or family involvement, and a complex and demanding industry are just some of the deterrents for someone starting out – or looking for a way in.

But kudos to Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) for a new program called ‘Drive for Life’ that will partner junior drivers with industry ‘coaches’ – mentors aimed at supporting young people to develop sustainable careers in the sport.

Totem Pole

Nathan Dawson now holds the win record for a local driver. A total of 53 races were conducted across six meetings in the Great South East, and ND saw the winning post first on 14 occasions.

To rub it in he trains one of them, Columbias Dee Cee, successful at Albion Park on 21/03. Pete McMullen (5) was the only driver to see the dust cloud as it went over the hill.

Chantal Turpin (5) was top trainer from Peter Greig (3).

Most pleasing was Vanity Bay for Trent Moffat at Albion Park 24/03. Big, big finish. Ipswich Factor 30/53. Dawson Dynasty 22/30.
