AN often used outdoor seat in the grounds at Cabanda in Rosewood has been restored through a community partnership between Rosewood’s Lions Club and Men’s Workshop.
Tanya Johnson regularly visits the grounds with her dog Maggie, and on one such visit she noticed that a garden seat was in need of some work.
Knowing that Lions members often assist with community projects she contacted the Lions Board and asked if there was some way of restoring the chair.
Tanya said that she took a photo of the chair and sent it to the members on the board to ask if they would restore it.
“The answer to my request was yes, and from there Rosewood Lions member and Rosewood Men’s Workshop Volunteer and Program Co-ordinator Trevor Halter suggested contacting the Rosewood Men’s Workshop to take on the restoration side while the Lions funded the project,” she said.
“It was great to see the Lions and the Men’s Workshop work together to bring this popular chair back to life, because it is used by residents and visitors to Cabanda often to take a break and to enjoy the scenery.”
A combination of skill and dedication by the members of the Men’s Workshop was used to ensure that the chair was restored in the best way possible, to keep its original charm and to make it safe and presentable.
Trevor Halter said the restoration was an enjoyable one with everyone from the workshop eager to assist.
“Roughly the cost of the project came to $400 which included sandblasting, powdercoating, the restoration of the wood, painting and some new materials,” he said.
“It is like a whole new chair, safe, sturdy and definitely a feature in the grounds.”
