Hidden Vale push to lift cap on guest numbers

Hidden Vale owners want to push the limits on daily guest numbers and lift the cap even higher during special event days.

Graham and Jude Turner, through their company Jilrift Pty Ltd, have applied to the Ipswich City Council to make changes to a development permit gained in 2022 over the 227ha property at 617 Grandchester Mt Mort Road at Grandchester.

That approval encompassed the facilities, operations and activities at Spicers Hidden Vale Retreat and Hidden Vale Adventure Park.

Among the conditions council set on the approval was a limitation on daily guest numbers.

Now, the owners want to increase the daily guest numbers from 200 to 300.

But the application to make changes to the original approval goes beyond the daily limit.

In documents uploaded with the application just before Christmas, the owners advocated for a ‘temporary events’ condition being added to the 2022 approval.

The main focus of the proposed condition is to increase the daily guest limit to 500 on 18 days, annually and on two days (one weekend) annually, to increase the number to 1,000.

Application documents included traffic assessment and acoustic engineering reports.

The finding of the traffic assessment was that … “the ‘change’ to the approval to allow an increase in daily guest capacity on site, and to allow ‘Temporary Events’ is not anticipated to significantly impact on traffic flow and/or the surrounding transport network

Similarly, the acoustic engineering report found that compliance with the relevant noise criteria would be achieved without additional noise mitigation measures.
