Celebrating our community at Marburg festival

AN ART exhibition, lots of stalls, entertainers and displays by an array of local organisations greeted visitors to the annual Black Snake Creek Festival in Marburg on Saturday (September 20).

Hosted by the Marburg and District Residents Association, organisers reported a good outcome from a festival that is as much about community networking and information as it is about simply having an enjoyable day out.

The Marburg Art Society’s annual art show led the way with award presentations on the Friday night.

Held in the Marburg Community Centre, the exhibition offered viewers a great selection of entries from different areas away from the district.

“The standard of the work was very high and the judge of the show was very impressed by the quality,” a Society member said.

“The evening was opened by Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne accompanied by Cr Pye Augustine and representatives from Rosewood Community Bank, which sponsored the money for the awards.”

Nighttime entertainment provided by Swing Magic added to the evening’s enjoyment.

On Saturday, the Festival was officially opened by Cr Jim Madden with Member for Blair Shayne Neumann and Ms Bourne also in attendance.

Entertainment on the slab included the Ipswich Model Band, the Just Singing Group and Jonathan Mark Hayden who entertained with popular songs.

A line dancing demonstration also attracted a lot of attention.

This year, the theme was ‘Celebrating our Community’ and different community groups were there to give out information about the various organisations to show people what Marburg has to offer in the way of activities.

The Community Challenge was very well received and a lot of fun was had by the local groups which took part.

The local firies did a demonstration of cutting up a car which created a lot of attention.

Sponsorships from the Ipswich City Council and Rosewood Community Bank were acknowledged and all those who attended the event were made welcome.
