State Government’s Behaviour Boost boosted

THE State Government has announced a funding injection of $45 million each year for state schools to implement behaviour management strategies.

“Six months on from the introduction of the successful Behaviour Boost resource, schools are reporting positive changes in behaviour and improvements in their classrooms,” Minister for Education, John-Paul Langbroek said.

“Behaviour Boost will be bolstered by an additional $2.5 million to provide state schools with up to $2,000 grants to support the professional development of school-based staff with key behaviour management responsibilities.”

Mr Langbroek said school leaders were best placed to choose their Behaviour Boost allocation, which can include engaging school-based behaviour specialists, who play a vital role in building the capability of their colleagues to respond effectively to student behaviour.

The Behaviour Boost funding is in addition to other resources schools already receive. These include Reasonable Adjustments Resourcing, teacher and teacher aide allocations, and curriculum grants.

“The Crisafulli Government’s $21.9 billion Education Budget lays the foundations for a fresh start with $1.09 billion for 15 new schools and $222.1 million for the More Teachers, Better Education Plan to deliver more teachers, teacher aides and behaviour specialists, and help to reduce red tape for teachers,” Mr Langbroek said.

“We are delivering a fresh start for Queensland schools and the role of behaviour specialists, and supporting resources, are invaluable in establishing expectations and addressing behaviour issues quickly and effectively.

“Safer classrooms give all students the best opportunity to learn.”

“We know teachers need this support on an ongoing basis and that’s why we’re proud to deliver it permanently.”
