Big digit birthday proof of winning formula

THE 1250th edition of your community newspaper, the Moreton Border News, went out last week.

As the Moreton Border News rolled out its 1250th edition, it’s worth noting the many changes to the print media industry since 1997.

We’re still serving our community despite facing one of our biggest challenges – all those news items pumped out by the global tech giants come from newspapers like the Moreton Border News and its sister newspapers, the Fassifern Guardian and the Ipswich Tribune.

Those tech giants do not employ journalists. They take our stories without paying their fair share to keep local reporting alive

Why has Moreton Border News endured when so many others have not?

It is a team effort, working with strong leadership.

When you open the latest copy of the Moreton Border News, its layout, placement of headers, photographs and stories aren’t just ‘plonked’ into place.

Each page is carefully tailored, and good photographs are as important as a journalist’s words.

The community deserves quality journalism and photographic excellence, and that’s what we strive to deliver week after week, year after year.

Our photographer is Lyle Radford, a consummate, award winning professional.

Our journalists are old school newshounds who bring their A game to every edition, as do the administration and production staff.

But without the support of our advertisers, the Moreton Border News might not be celebrating its 1250th edition.

There’s another, equally important aspect of the paper’s longevity and that’s the readers who pick up a copy every Friday and read it cover to cover. It is also about their willingness to give us leads into the stories that fill the pages.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about the team that makes the Moreton Border News possible … it’s about the readers because without them there is no newspaper.

Thank you for your support as we look forward to another 1,250 editions.

— The team at the Moreton Border News
