DEFENDING Rosewood Golf Club Division 1 champion Jack Wojcicki knows consistency over four rounds is needed to win the prestigious honour board title.
However, Jack received an extra shot of confidence preparing for the latest 18-hole single stroke event being contested each Saturday on May 10, 17, 24 and 31.
Jack hit his second hole-in-one playing at last month’s Middle Ridge tournament in Toowoomba.
His fine shot on the second hole came after Jack achieved a similar feat last August at the Wolston Park course where he works as a greenskeeper.
Having has also recently played in competitions like the Gold Coast Open, Jack is eager to successfully defend his 2024 Rosewood championship success.
“I’ve done alright lately,” Jack said.
“I’m finding a bit of time to play some amateur events.”
He said apart from fine-tuning his on-course driving, “I feel pretty good”.
Jack has been playing the Rosewood course “every day lately”, highlighting his dedication.
Jack recorded 297 against more experienced opponents to win last year’s Rosewood club championship by four shots.
He welcomed strong competition and team building at this year’s championships, including from his regular Rosewood club pennants teammates.
“It’s always good to know where everyone is at moving into the pennant season,” Jack said.
The Willowbank-based golfer regularly plays at Rosewood, adding to his knowledge as a greenskeeper at the Wacol club.
Jack’s mum Darlene is known as “the face of the Rosewood Golf Club”.
Darlene performs a variety of roles including scheduling events and looking after the club’s 300 plus members.
She expects more than 120 golfers to contest this year’s members-only championships.
With the club’s water table full, Darlene is hoping for some settled weather over the next month while the championships are played.
“It’s so green and lush. The greens are absolutely beautiful,” she said.
Rosewood Golf Club president Ken Parker agreed.
He has also been on weather watch knowing the championships were approaching.
“If the weather stays like it is, it’s looking good,” Ken said.
“We’ve come through the recent weather pretty well and the course looks pretty good.
“I don’t mind this time of the year with the weather.”
Golfers have nominated for three men’s divisions, two ladies sections and a competition for over-70 players.
Ken expects the A-Grade to be hotly contested after recent lead-up events and competitive handicaps.
Jack meanwhile is a huge fan of the 18-hole Rosewood course having started golf 17 years ago after his dad David asked him what sport he wanted to play.
Jack won the Rosewood junior championships in 2013 and 2015, along with other senior club events like the Mug of Mugs title in 2018.
