New bridge improves safety for Hiddenvale Road users

THE project to replace the single lane timber structure over Western Creek on Hiddenvale Road with a two-lane concrete bridge has been completed.

Last week, the Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann joined Mayor Teresa Harding and councillors Pye Augustine, Andrew Antoniolli, Jacob Madsen and former councillor Sheila Ireland took a first hand look at the $4.8 million bridge.

The Federal Government awarded the Ipswich City Council $3.9 million through the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program for the project. Council funded the remaining $975,000 out of its capital budget.

“The project replaced an existing one lane timber bridge over Western Creek on Hiddenvale Road with a two-lane concrete structure, to improve safety and access for local motorists and heavy load vehicles,” Mr Neumann said.

“The existing timber bridge was in poor condition and difficult to maintain, and at 65 years old, had reached the end of its lifespan.

“Work began in September last year to construct the new bridge, which will now cater to the needs of modern heavy vehicles, including livestock and freight movements, emergency response vehicles and public transport, including buses.”

Minister for Regional Development & Local Government, Kristy McBain said regional bridges were of critical importance to keeping communities safely and reliably connected, including during flood events.

“It’s fantastic to see construction of the Hiddenvale Road Bridge complete.”
