A STUDENT from Rosewood High, two from Westmac and one from Faith Lutheran College will compete for the title of Rosewood Lions Youth of the Year, on Saturday.
Club members are justifiably proud of the calibre of competitors who annually compete through an interview, a prepared speech and an impromptu speech in front of members and guests.
“The Club has been running a Youth of the Year competition for more than 30 years,” said Club Treasurer, Bruce Richards.
“Last year, Emily Goodlet from West Moreton Anglican College won our Club competition and went on to win the Regional title.”
This year the judging will be held in the Rosewood State School hall beginning with the interviews in the morning before the lunch break and then the public speaking segment from 12.45pm.
Entrants this year are Haylee Armstrong, Chloe Butler, Kylah Gough and Isabella Lehmann.
Haylee is a School Leader and is a member of the Student Council at Rosewood State High School.
She is part of the Army cadet group and a Commander for the Anzac Day ceremony held at the school.
Haylee is a member of the School Cattle Showing Team, competes in Junior Cattle Judging competitions and is a speaker at the Highland Cattle Society gatherings. She has her own Highland Cattle stud and a memorable highlight of her breeding program was two Grand Champion wins at Royal Shows.
Adding to her list of achievements, Haylee is a Duke of Edinburgh Junior State Representative for Australian Highland Cattle Society.
Chloe attends West Moreton Anglican College and is well equipped for the Youth of the Year competition as she is involved in the school’s debating and public speaking program.
She is both a competitor and coach in the music program and has competed in eisteddfods as well as being involved in the Symphonic Band and concert performances.
Chloe has volunteered her time with community groups such as the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the school’s P&F Association and takes part in Anzac Day marches.
Her sports interests include touch footy, netball, swimming and cross country and she’s been successful in dance, swimming and figure skating.
Kylah also attends Westmac and is an active member of the dance company.
She was selected as a school House Captain and captain of the Basketball team. Kylah competes in the TAS competitions for basketball, netball and volleyball.
On completing Year 12, Kylah hopes to study nursing with a focus on midwifery.
Isabella attends Faith Lutheran College where she is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, is a House Captain and is involved in the Girls Gym Program, Kokoda Youth Foundation program and has taken part in the Sudsey Challenge.
She is a member of the Ipswich Youth Council and has completed the Hard Start program for USQ.
She takes part in a range of school sports including AFLW, basketball, touch footy, rugby and netball, interschool athletics and cross country carnivals, as well as track and field at a district level.
The winner of the Rosewood Lions Club Youth of the Year will have the opportunity to compete in the Regional competition, which will be hosted this year by the Rosewood Club on March 15.
