Ipswich population exceeds 260,000

THE city’s population growth continues with more than 260,000 residents now calling Ipswich home.

The Council Planning and Regulatory Services Quarterly Report from October 1 to December 31, 2024, lists the top five suburbs for growth as Ripley, Spring Mountain, Redbank Plains, Collingwood Park and South Ripley.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the number of new residents moving to Ipswich in the last quarter rose by close to 20 percent on last quarter, with 2,733 new residents in the last quarter of 2024.

“The last quarter saw 727 new housing lots created in Ipswich which is more than a 100 percent jump from the previous quarter,” Cr Harding said.

“We also saw 958 new dwellings built in Ipswich, a 20 percent increase on last quarter.

“In less than two years, we have seen our city’s population rise from 250,000 residents to an incredible 260,000 residents.

“That figure will continue to climb over the coming decades as Ipswich is forecast to grow faster than any other council in Queensland.”

Meanwhile, the report showed Council responded to close to 5,000 customer service requests in the last quarter, with illegal parking on the footpath the city’s most common complaint.
